Classroom Rules
Classroom Economy
This year, your student will take part in a classroom economy. Students will be rewarded with tickets (equivalent to $1) for things such as completing their classroom job, completing work at home, showing exceptional character, and other behaviors that they would be rewarded for as an adult would at his or her regular job.
Students can use this money to purchase classroom prizes or privileges on select Fridays and school-wide prizes or privileges each month. Students may also choose to save their money for more expensive privileges offered throughout the year. Other positive rewards include: praise, positive phone calls or notes home, and a whole class celebration or free time such as a dance party or dress-up day.
Similar to real life, if a student chooses to break a rule or "law", he or she will owe a predetermined fine. Major violations of the student discipline code such as physical or verbal defiance towards a student or teacher will result in automatic referral written to the office and a loss in other classroom privileges. Please see student handbook for further details.
Character Clip Chart
This year our classroom will be using a character-trait clip chart that's designed to recognize the ways that students show exceptional personal character, and to highlight the importance of having character as a member of our classroom community. The character traits we are focusing on this year are being responsible, being joyful, being kind, being brave, being proactive, being respectful, and showing perseverance. The clip chart works by having students clip onto a particular trait after being recognized by myself, another adult, or a peer. Students will not necessarily clip onto the chart each day-- this does not mean their behavior failed to meet expectations. It just means they were not recognized for one of these character traits on that particular day. Students will share about their day on our daily Plus and Delta Reflection Sheet. Please look at this reflection sheet to learn more about your student's day. |
Reset Sheet
Sometimes we make poor decisions and need to step back and think about how we can make our day better. The reset sheet is for this purpose. When a student needs multiple reminders about one or more of the classroom or school rules, the student is required to fill out a reset sheet to reflect on the behavior and what he or she can do better next time. The sheet should be signed by the teacher and the student, and then taken home to be signed by a guardian. All work missed while filling out a reset sheet must be completed during afternoon recess. If multiple reset sheets are required in one week, a phone call home will take place to discuss other strategies that can be used. |
