For every brain break we take, our class earns points towards our champ. After every 10 points, our champ grows stronger. Once our champ is maxed out, we get to pick a new one! This is Little Rufus, our current champ. You can sign up for a free account to use at home by going to www.gonoodle.com. We love to use these brain breaks during indoor recess, Fun Friday, and celebrations. |
You may have heard your child talk about Go Noodle throughout our first weeks of school. Go Noodle is an online channel of brain breaks that we use often in our classroom. Research shows that incorporating short breaks that allow movement increases student focus and academic gains. Because our recess times are limited to lunch and the end of the day, we use Go Noodle to take these short breaks.

Donorschoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy help classrooms in need. Teachers request supplies to make sure their students have the materials they need to succeed. Donors can give as much as they like and as little as they want to specific projects that they would like to support. Every penny counts and your generosity is greatly appreciated. I have submitted a project for our classroom requesting two 15-inch black Hooki Stools. A Hooki Stool is a stool with a convex bottom that allows students to safely move while working. Our project is called You can help our project in two ways: 1. Make a monetary donation to our project using the link below. 2. Help spread the word about our project by sharing the link below with friends and family via email, social media, or word of mouth. Your donation will have a direct impact on at least 19 students this year, in addition to all future students who will use the Hokki Stools. In return, you will receive awesome photos of our donation in use and a heartfelt thank you from my students and me. Thank you for taking the time to help our class with our exciting project! Research has supported that music and movement increase student success in school! We begin every morning with math calendar and skill review time. This time includes a song that is the student of the day chooses. Here are a few of the songs we love to sing and dance to!
Our first two full weeks are in the books and, boy, did we have a lot of fun! Our title appropriately highlights the most excited parts of our week besides consistently reaching over ten minutes of reading stamina. What a triumph! We have started our guided math rotations with success. After calendar time, a mini-lesson, and journal page, each group meets with the teacher for more individualized instruction, completes and center activity, and uses the technology to improve number sense skills (soon to be math fact skills). Our math rotation board is below. This week we started acting out word problems. After a mini-lesson where students were acted out various some, some more (+) and some, some went away (-) problems themselves, we moved to small group. Students then used pop cubes to act out problems and write and read number sentences to match the problems. In the next two weeks, we will move from acting out problems to drawing picture representations. We also adopted a new class pet this week! Meet President Cow. She is a dairy cow from Henrichs Dairy Farm in Breese, IL. Farmer Bryan Henrichs is a 3rd generation dairy farmer. President Cow lives with her 230 dairy cow friends! Check out this picture and video below. Like every week, we ended our week of fun learning with a Fun Friday! Our second Fun Friday was a extra fun and smelly when we had a practice spelling test to prepare for next week's real spelling test. We wrote our words in shaving cream for some extra practice! Check out the pictures of our spelling test and our second Fun Friday below! |
